I usually set the volume at unity or above, turn the fuzz up until it's too much then back it off just a smidge (Philip Sayce advice). The bias knob in the middle can yield some interesting and fun tones from gated spitting sounds (anti-clockwise) to more overdrive like (counter clockwise). There are great sounds to be had turning the volume pot down on your guitar too - in fact so many awesome clean tone to be had using a fuzz with the guitar volume down. Try it on the neck pickup and definitely play with the guitars volume pot.
